About Us

Founded by those who understand

The ARCI Initiative was founded by Henric Skytt, together with patients and families across Europe who share a common goal: to accelerate the path toward a cure for ichthyosis.

Born from lived experience, the initiative brings together people who understand the daily reality of the disease and believe that promising science should not be held back by a lack of funding.

Our aim is simple: to help turn scientific possibility into treatments—and ultimately cures—for the people waiting for them.

“Growing up, I was told there was no cure—that ichthyosis was something I would live with forever. Today, science tells a different story.

Now, our greatest challenge is making sure these breakthroughs receive the funding they need to become reality.”

— Henric Skytt, Founder of The ARCI Initiative

Our Mission

The ARCI Initiative is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research that advances new therapies and, ultimately, lifelong cures for Autosomal Recessive Congenital Ichthyosis (ARCI).

ARCI is a group of rare genetic skin disorders that affect thousands of people worldwide. From the moment they are born, patients live with painful skin, constant scaling, overheating, infections, and a lifelong burden of daily treatment.

Despite remarkable scientific progress, there is still no cure.

Today, breakthroughs in gene editing, mRNA therapeutics, and regenerative medicine are bringing us closer than ever before. By supporting the world's leading researchers, we aim to accelerate these discoveries from the laboratory to the patients who need them most.

Because every person deserves the opportunity to live beyond the limitations of their disease.
